There are three main areas of the project, each with a set of defined goals:
Educating congregations
- helping congregations to recognise science as an area of life that is not alien to a Christian worldview, and with which the Church should engage
Reaching out to the science community
- building relationships
- finding common ground between the church community and the science community
- offering God’s love
Working with the local community
- raising interest in science
- demonstrating the compatibility between science and faith
- creating engagement between church and community
Within this framework, the Science Missioner role exists to develop relationships between the church community and the science & technology community, to facilitate dialogue on matters of science and religion, and to help the church engage with some of the scientific issues that affect us all, such as global climate change and how to respond to the challenges it presents.
